Big problems, loud bangs, new threads and splitting headaches. All of these and more can be found in the gore filled pages of DCeased #4. Tom Taylor, I don’t know whether to salute you, or just be very, very afraid. Maybe a bit of both? Yeah… let’s go with that.

It’s scary just how good this series is. When you remove the constraints of canon and continuity, the story can move in dangerous, unexpected and chilling new directions. I thought I’d seen every zombie permutation imaginable, but in a world populated by scary monsters and super-freaks the surprises can still come thick and fast. DCeased pulls out all the stops and delivers something that’s rotten to the core – but in the best way possible – in every single issue.

I See Dead People

Artists Trevor Hairsine, Stefano Gaudiano and Rainier Beredo must rub their hands with glee every time they receive a new script. As a reader, I can tell that these three incredible artists are having a great time, because they’re being allowed to flex their creative muscles. Every new chapter delivers images I never thought I’d see. Characters act – and react – in ways I’d never have previously considered, and my nerves are being shredding mercilessly.

Page 5, panel 4 is genius (buy the book). I would LOVE to see the clean pencilled and inked versions of this page, because the final product is mind-blowing. The line artists and colorist have come together in away that I seriously can’t tell who’s responsible for what. This team is impressing the heck out of me, month in and month out.

Thankfully, I know exactly what Saida Temofonte’s responsible for. Every FWOOM, HRAARGH, BANG, CHK and TOOM resonates in this issue. Once again we’re seeing a talented letterer being allowed to go crazy, and it’s an absolute joy.

Conclusion

Romance, flying butlers, island paradises and green canaries. All of these and more can be found in the gore filled pages of DCeased #4. The amazing thing is though, I feel that we ain’t seen nothing yet, and the best (worst?) is yet to come.
