A Very Long List of LGBTQIA+ Books - Part 1

Review by Fay Clark

When speaking to my friends recently I was talking about a bunch of books that happened to have some LGBT+ representation in them and they all looked at me rather blankly. That got me to asking them if they'd like me to make a long list of gay books for them to pick from and read. I haven't really seen anything like this myself, so here is everything on my radar so far. (It's pretty long, you're welcome!)

I've just realised that I might need to write a short description for each of these, just to entice you even more than you already obviously should be. I'm going try and do it in 10 words or less for your sanity and mine. Buckle up kids, this is gonna be a long one.

In no particular order:
  • Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo (All Books) - Badass awesome characters, a heist plot and some flirty gays.
  • Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan (All Books) - Greek demigod shenanigans you need and some finding your sexuality.
  • Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan (All Books) - More Greek/Roman demigods but the gay has come out.
  • Magnus Chase by Rick Riordan (All Books) - Queerest of the demigods, the Norse have it all.
  • Trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan (All Books) - Apollo the Queer god gets made human and quests await.
  • The Wicked + The Divine by Kieron Gillen (All Volumes) - Crazy reincarnation with murder plot and everyone is queer.
  • Batwoman by Greg Rucka/J.H.Williams lll (All Volumes) - Lesbian Batman... and so much more besides.
  • Nimona by Noelle Stevenson - Fantasy wizards and shape shifters with a dash of Queer.
  • Rat Queens by Kurtis J. Wiebe (All Volumes) - Group of lady mercenaries with bad attitudes and queer tendencies.
  • The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee - Gay Historical Romance with a quest and a cuteness overload.
  • The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee - Smart lady, wanna be doctor with historical queerness and pirates.
  • The Gentleman's Guide to Getting Lucky by  Mackenzi Lee - Historical gay getting it on.
  • Carry On by Rainbow Rowell - If Harry Potter and Draco were in love, also vampires.
  • Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell - The next instalment of Drarry, with a  banging flora suit.
  • Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire (All Books) - Doors are portals to another world, you come back Queer.
  • Will Grayson, Will Grayson by David Levithan and John Green - Two boys with the same name, one's gay, one's idiotic.
  • Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli - Young gay boy connects with anonymous boy via email, mysterious.
  • Leah On the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli - Bisexual Leah finds herself with feelings for a female friend.
  • The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater (All Books) - Welsh dead king, magical realism, psychic heavy, gay areas.
  • The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness - Background characters of every book you've ever read, but queer.
  • Nevernight by Jay Kristoff (All Books) - Gory assassin in training with shadow powers and some lesbians.
  • The Smoke Thieves by Sally Green - Demons when captured give off smoke, also disaster gays..
  • Moonstuck by Grace Ellis (All Volumes) - Cute werewolf/mystical with all the queer you ever need.
  • Light Years by Kass Morgan - More disaster gays, but in space with mystery alien subplot.
  • Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz - Summer swimming friendship turns into a life changing experience.
  • The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling - Atmospheric spooky underground tunnelling with two females at the helm.

After having a look at this long, long, long list I have decided (with a second opinion, thanks Steve!) that we will be having more than one of these lists. So, this is part one officially all wrapped up.

I hope that I have bought some books to your attention or even made you want to read some with my short, sharp 10 word synopses.

Enjoy all the amazing LGBTQIA+ books the publishing world has to offer, don't worry.

I'll be back with part two soon!

Book Queen Out!
