The end is here! Titans – Burning Rage #6 delivers a high-octane conclusion to the action-packed 6 issue mini-series.

Writer Dan Jurgens has delivered a vintage 90s comic book, but with all of today’s flourish and gloss. This series could easily have slotted in with the classic Wolfman/Perez run, if not for the computer color, and inclusion of Tim Drake’s Robin. I’m not saying that this comic is old-fashioned, just that it evokes real rose-tinted nostalgia. As is always the case with Mr Jurgens, though, there are a few modern day twists which make it very today.

The Boy’s A BEAST!

It’s clear that the art team had a whale of a time making this book too. Dinosaurs, dynamite and dynamic derring-do abound in these pages. It really feels like the wonderful Scot Eaton and Wayne Faucher have tapped their inner fan-boys while drawing this series, just as they’ve woken up mine. I love sophisticated, grown up psychological comics, but there’s always room for a good old-fashioned spandex throw-down too! That’s where DC are excelling right now, with the sheer range and scope of books they’re producing.

As I mentioned earlier, it’s only Hi-Fi’s bang up to date digital colors that let you know this is a 2020 book, and not the 1992 model. Both Hi-Fi and the Titan of Typography, Tom Napolitano, have polished this piece to perfection. Page two is a particular favorite, with Beast Boy in full dyno-mode BRA-KASSHing the proceedings, sending poor ol’ Hawk tumbling.

Yes, we’ll have fun, fun, fun til Dan Jurgens takes the T-Rex away.

Conclusion

Titans – Burning Rage #6 was everything I wanted it to be.  I frequently see people on social media asking which comic-books can they give a ten-twelve year old to read. It’s clear that there are fans out there who feel some of the mainstream titles are a little dark for younger readers; but if this series isn’t perfect for new fans, then I don’t know what is.
